All whoever lived in this world and all angels will be judged, but not all at the same time. Belief in some kind of general judgment at the end of the age is common to many religions, including some parts of Christendom, but it is not the teaching of the Bible. Scripture teaches several distinct judgments which differ in timing, place, subjects to be judged, purpose, and outcome. The only thing these judgments have in common is the Judge -God in Christ. The Bible distinguishes at least six judgments:
a. The Judgment of the Cross 2,000 years ago-past.
b. The believer’s self-judgment during the Church age- present.
c. The Judgment Seat of Christ at Christ’s coming- future.
d. The Judgment of Israel-future.
e. The Judgment of Gentile Nations-future.
f. The Great White Throne Judgment at the end of this age-future.
In this brief course, we will study four of these: a, b, c, and f. Each of these judgments will result in a renovation which prepares the way for God to do a new thing. The Judgment of the Cross prepared the way for the New Covenant. Self-judgment prepares the believer to be ready when Christ comes to give him a new body and a share in His eternal kingdom. The Judgment Seat of Christ prepares us for a whole new relationship with God and for ruling and reigning with Christ. The Judgment of Israel will prepare this nation to receive the fulfillment of the many promises made to her as God’s nation. The Judgment of the Nations will prepare the way for the kingdoms of this world to become the kingdoms of God and of His Christ. The Great White Throne Judgment will presage a new heaven and new earth free from all taint of sin, where the Lamb will be the pure light.
