Water baptism in the New Covenant fulfils what physical circumcision foreshadowed in the Old: the cutting away of everything that keeps us from belonging wholly to God. In Christ we are “circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands” (Col 2:11). This inner work frees us to love, worship, and obey God from the heart.
