Paul likens every believer to a builder. Christ alone is the immovable foundation; on Him we construct a lifetime of deeds, motives, and character. At His return, Jesus will summon us before His judgment seat (Greek: bema). In blazing holiness He will test our “work” with fire. Whatever reflects His life—gold, silver, precious stones—will survive and win reward; whatever is merely self-made—wood, hay, stubble—will be consumed. The scene is not about salvation (already secured in Christ) but about evaluating stewardship and issuing rewards or loss.
