What is the Lake of Fire?

What is the Lake of Fire?

in

The lake of fire is the final and eternal abode of all men or angels who reject God. It is a place of everlasting confinement away from God, and a condition of everlasting rejection.

The lake of fire is not annihilation. The wicked will never cease to exist, but will consciously endure their punishment forever. Experiencing the second death in the lake of fire does not mean that the personality lapses into nonbeing, but that it is deprived of that fellowship with God for which it was designed. Without God, the personality ceases to have meaning, but sinks into futility and uselessness.

In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power (2 Thessalonians 1:8, 9).

 (1) It is a place of imprisonment and death (Revelation 20:14, 15; Matthew 5:24, 25).

(2) It is a place of utter despair (Luke 13:28; Matthew 22:13; 24:51; 25:30).

(3) It is a place of conscious misery and torment (Revelation 20:10; 14:11; Luke 16:24,25).

(4) It is a place of loneliness and darkness (Matthew 8:12; 22:13; 25:30; Luke 13:28).

(5) It is a place of degradation and unholy associations (Revelation 21:8; 22:15).

No one presently occupies the lake of fire. It is a place prepared for the devil and his angels and all men who refuse God’s grace and salvation.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).
