Rooted And Built Up In Christ

Colossians 2:6-10
4  I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with persuasive arguments.
5  For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ.
6  Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him,
7  rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.
8  Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elemental forces of the world, and not based on Christ.
9  For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ,
10  and you have been filled by Him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
God has issued out a call for us to come up to the next level of growth. Doing so will be determined by your willingness to move beyond any and every hindrance to your growth. Whatever hinders you: setback, disappointment, regret or discouragement, move beyond that issue. If you will ever move past whatever it is, you have to grow spiritually.
In order to grow up in God or grow spiritually, we have to make it our decision to do so purposefully. It is not difficult to do if you set your will to grow. Nothing can happen without your will getting involved. You win at the thing that has defeated you for years if you get your will involved. You can overcome setbacks by getting your will involved. There is nothing that can withstand you as long as your will is part of your next move.
In the book of Colossians, the Apostle Paul had a concern about the Church’s focus, foundation, and faith. Therefore, Paul addressed some of the very specific issues that were at hand.
Paul knew, if they would be victorious, the Colossians Church would have to grow in the things of God. He says it this way, “Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude”. Who would have ever thought that gratitude would have been part of walking in the kind of growth God desired.
Paul urged the church to do three things:

  • Walk in Him (Christ)
  • Be rooted and grounded in him
  • Be overflowing with gratitude

Only then can one really walk in all of the fullness which is in Christ Jesus.

How do we grow?
Growth doesn’t happen by happenstance; we make the decision on purpose to grow. Far too often, we are hindered in life, because we don’t grow the way God desires or expects. That being said, it becomes clear that God wants us and expects us to grow. It doesn’t just happen, you have to do something to grow. Name five things you are purposely doing daily to grow in God.
When God put a mandate upon me to teach on this, I realized that the battle was on! God said there were people that are presently operating in as mature believers that are being defeated in certain areas of their lives and ministries all because they missed some things they should have received early on.
